The climate of Opatija is especially favourable
for curing diseases of the respiratory system
(bronchial catarrh and asthma), anaemia, post-myocardial
infarction and other heart diseases.
Opatija was proclaimed a health resort as far
back as 1889, and in 1912 the town had 12 sanatoria
with 62 doctors.
"Thalassotherapia",
a special hospital for the rehabilitation and
the curing of heart and lung diseases, and rheumatism,
was founded in 1959 thus continuing the tradition
of health tourism in Opatija. This special hospital
consist of five buildings with a total of 250
beds and is engaged following activities. |
