| The old, typical Mediterranean, fisherman settlement
at the end of the Rijeka bay. It is 2 kilometers from
Opatija, but today it is connected with it. The picturesque
core is concentrated around the small port of sailing
ships that is well protected from the northern and western
winds. The new part of the town is, by hotels and villas,
conected with Opatija. The town is mentioned for the
first time in 1543 as a port of the Kastav landed estate.
The Baroque church with two bell-towers was built in
1708. The houses of the captains and ship owners along
the coast belong to the periods of Classicism and late
baroque. |
